I’ve always loved the camera, whether I was the one in the picture or the one taking the picture. I got my first camera when I was twelve years old—and maybe that wasn’t the best idea. All that came out of that was cringe. But then, I guess it planted a seed.

In 2019, my sister asked me to do a photoshoot for her in-laws. They had been searching for a photographer to take family pictures, but everyone they found was just way out of their price range. And so they thought ‘well hey, Sara has a camera and can take some decent photos. Let’s ask her!’

It was scary saying yes, but I’m glad I did.

While this wasn’t the first time I had done a ‘photoshoot’, it was the first time I had been paid for it. And that was pretty exciting for me. While all I really did was show up and take some pictures (and knew very little about ISO, aperture, essential lighting, posing, etc), I still got some great shots and it did wonders to my confidence. After that, I knew that photography was something I wanted to look into more.
